Below is an e-mail message to Paul Franklin and the Club from Mike Cavanagh
Paul,
Thanks and the very best to you and your family over the festive season.
I don't know if I have already mentioned to you but I have now moved to Bangkok - have joined a rugby
club which regales in the name of Old Bangkok Bangers RFC.
I was back in the UK a few weeks ago so was able to attend Terry's funeral which I was pleased
about. Let's hope we don't lose too many more old friends next year - 2006 has not been a good one for us.
Anyway all the best for the new year - I will be keeping this e-mail going while i am in Thailand so
please continue to use it as a means of keeping me in touch with what is going at Eastleigh. Also, keep sending me the newsletters
as I will get them through the mail re-direct.
best wishes,
Mike Cavanagh

Steve Tennant
It is with great sadness and shock that the Club announces the sudden death of Steve
Tennant [ 26 ] from a heart attack at home on 22 October. Steve was due to play
in the front row for the Second XV this coming Saturday. Our thoughts are with his partner Kelly and his young family. Funeral
details will follow.
Gus Walters
The Club announces the death of ex-player Gus Walters. Gus was an excellent all round player for ERFC during the late
40’s early 50’s. He played Championship rugby for Hampshire during the 1955/56 season. He met his future wife while on a ERFC tour of Cornwall, and settled in Falmouth turning out for
the Town Club at fly-half. We believe he also played a couple of times for Cornwall. There are still a few current ERFC members who
remember him well. A cert for God’s XV. [ Oct 2008 ]
Eddie Hart
It is with great sadness that the Club announces the death of Life Vice President Eddie
Hart on Friday 1st August 2008. Eddie had been suffering from Alzheimer’s. Eddie played for the Club back
in the 1950’s as well as turning out for Hampshire in a non-championship match. Eddie, also a good cricketer, saw his
son Jim play for the Club, and his grandson Matthew play for Winchester. Next season Matthew will captain National Three side
Richmond. Our thoughts our with his wife Joan, also a Life VP, and the family and friends.

know if you can remember Steve Buckley who used to play for us in the back row for a couple of years and who I still know
through the local squash club. Anyway he died on Tuesday just 53 following a 3 year battle with cancer. Keep
up the good work and hope all goes well for the team on 24 th Kind Regards Bob (Robert Carkeet)
All at ERFC,
Thanks for keeping me informed about things down there in the sunny south. I recently attended
the wedding of a good friends daughter only to find that the groom, one Andrew Browning, is a member at ERFC...does the girl
know what she's let herself in for ??
Regards, Roy Wolfe, Life VP, Oxfordshire.

New Years Message from John Luke
Hello Paul,
Just a quick note to wish you and all the players and committee at ERFC a happy and very successful
New Year. Lets hope a few places can be climbed in the league. Life in Greece is as peaceful as ever with some
very agreeable weather over the Christmas period.
Now we've got that out the way, Sara and I can start our diets with a vengeance. Still
missing our rugby though, Greece cannot provide that at all I am afraid. We do manage to listen to the radio commentary
on BBC each week for Toms game with the Cornish Pirates, so it goes some way to soften the blow.
He has settled in really well in Cornwall, and has made the No12 slot his own so far.
Has had some very good write ups in the various rugby press recently. I have attached a pic taken recently against Rotheram.
Once again regards to you all
John
Good day ERFC
Thanks for the latest Club News email, albeit a sombre one. It is to be expected
to here of old friends like Gus Walters passing one, although we are not ready for it. Gus had that manner and air about him
that was a one-off. I had only just started the game as a 15 year old when I had the privilege of playing with him a few times,
and remember him well with fond memories. I expect Ken Wheatley will be sad over his passing, so kindly remember me to him.
As for young Steve Tennant what a tragedy for one so young. Even though I didn’t know him I still feel that having such
a history with the Club all of the members are part of our family. If you happen to see his wife Kelly mention that I feel
for her loss, as I’m sure many of his mates do. Best wishes to all in the Club.
Bill Brook [ ex-player in Australia ]
Message from John & Sara Luke
Hello one and All
I would just like to send my thanks to Paul for his constant updates. We still follow the
clubs progress with great interest awaiting the results each week. We thought the news letter was a fantastic idea and
very gratefully received.
Our best wishes go to all sections of the club for the coming season we hope you can build on
the successes of 2007/2008. I would also like to ask Hugh Noonan where my £5.00 is this year or does the bet only stand
when Ireland win.
All the best to everyone. John & Sara Luke
Message
from Martin Roberts
Dear Paul
Please pass on my heartiest congragulations to Eastleigh Rugby Club on their fine success this
season. It's pleasing to know that the Club is doing really well, I only wish I was nearer so I could be a part of it.
I'm leaving the Navy next month and so am currently looking for employment to keep up this lifestyle. I have remarried a couple
of years ago and have a little one year called Carys to keep Morgan [ now 9 ] company. Well done again and give my regards
to the old crew.
Yours Martin Roberts

Letter to Club Chairman from our local MP
Chris Huhne writes " This is just a note to say congratulations, and sorry again for being unable
to call in as I had hoped during the reception on Saturday. I would also like you to pass on my congratulations to the team
for a famous victory in the Hampshire Plate, which is both very good news for local rugby and for the town. You mentioned
on the phone that there would be other opportunities at a lunch ahead of a match next season for us to meet up, and I would
very much like that. Congratulations on a great success.
With best wishes ..."
